Sheffield made Pocket knives with hand file work

These fine pocket knives are made by John Maleham of Sheffield, England on this page we have John’s penknives which have hand file work down the spring back. The knives are hand made completed and then taken apart for the hand file work to be done on the back. Some knives have snake wood handles. Snakewood also known as Leopard Wood is from French Guiana. Snakewood is commercially one of the most expensive woods in the world. It gets its name from the dark red to reddish brown "snakeskin" appearance of the heartwood. It has irregular black-striped markings and dark spots .  The knives are not always available due to the increasing scarcity of craftsmen able to undertake the work.
